Lucy Threlfall

Lucy Threlfall studied painting in the classical tradition at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and for the past ten years she has enjoyed a successful career as a portrait painter under her married name, Lucy Moore.

While she continues to take portrait commissions, she is now taking her painting in a new direction: bringing the fascination that she has found in the human form to the forms and colours of landscape. The strong technical understanding of form, colour and light she gained through her classical training has settled into a fertile relationship with her naturally bold and vibrant style.

Lucy follows in the tradition of romantic British landscape painters in her emotional response to nature. She is particularly inspired by the tension between the figurative and the abstract and often uses extreme light effects to explore this. Through focusing on the flow of light and shade – especially the evocative ambiguity at the edge of shadows – she takes us towards the essence of what we see and how natural forms make us feel.

Lucy’s almost obsessive passion for oil paint reveals itself in the variety and richness of her canvases; she paints in all weathers – in fields and on cliff tops – distilling what she sees into a visual language dominated by strong brush strokes and heightened colour.

She has exhibited with the Royal Portrait Society at the Mall Galleries and her work can be found in private collections in the UK, Europe and Australia.
